About Laura Boswell

Laura Boswell is an extremely accomplished and collectible printmaker. Specialising in relief printmaking, her work focuses on the rural landscape with particular attention to season, pattern and light. Awarded an eight week residency at the Nagasawa Art Institute in Japan, she was one of six international artists to study traditional Japanese water based woodblock printmaking. The unique residency gave her the opportunity to learn from a master woodcarver and a master printer as well as working with Japanese artists, craftsmen and papermakers. The residency has had a profound effect on her work and she is now experimenting with combinations of water and oil based work.

She has undertaken many large scale public art projects, including the street length enamel murals located outside the bus terminal in Aylesbury for, Bucks County Council. Her work is held in a number of notable public collections, including The House Of Lords, and the Buckinghamshire County Museum.

Laura teaches extensively and offers workshops throughout the year both through colleges and in her home studio. For the last two year's Laura has been the Section Head for Printmaking at Art in Action, responsible for selection and curation.

We first exhibited Laura's work in 2006, and she has been a regular favourite with us ever since. This is Laura's second Solo Show at Obsidian Art.

About Juliet Macleod

Juliet Macleod makes contemporary wheel-thrown porcelain for functional and decorative use.

More than twenty years working as a graphic designer generated a fascination for mark making. She uses shoreline ephemera to make tools for painting, printing and sgraffito. These and the themes of reflection, floating and surface are used to impart an evocative exploration of the Scottish coast.

Juliet works from her studio which is located in the countryside near Aberdeen.

The local coastline and regular trips to the Outer Hebrides inform her practice.
